Oh Beautiful ...Spacious Skies!

This was my view on the way home from church a week ago. This mountain stands as sort of a guardian above beautiful St. George, Utah. It often has a white peak during the winter, but to be completely white is not so common. It is majestic and often takes my breath away. 

This particular day made me reflect upon the patriotic song, "America the Beautiful". The spacious skies and...purple mountain's majesty...led me to ponder and feel grateful for this beautiful land in which I live.

Part of what inspired those thoughts, I believe, was when Mckenna, our daughter, shared with us her experience of listening to someone read the Declaration of Independence on YouTube. I woke up the next day and thought that was a great idea so I looked it up and listened myself. Wow! There are parts that I hear frequently, but listening to the whole thing was amazing and brought an understanding of the circumstances of that day and the price of the freedom I enjoy today. I wonder what would happen if every U.S. Citizen listened or read this even once a year. I believe the difference in attitude toward each other and a reminder of the oppression that can result from corrupt leadership would be important in knowing where to set and keep our standards in leadership today. Thank you for the reminder, Oh Beautiful...Spacious Skies!


What I Have Learned...
  • I have learned that it takes a lot of preparation and due diligence to look into building or buying a business.
  • I have learned that I believe in Physical Therapy, as my hip went out of joint this week and I couldn't move. A quick workup and some Ibuprofen worked wonders!
  • I have been reminded to look for everything "virtuous, lovely, of good report or praiseworthy", in everything and everyone. and live the best I can to have those characteristics in my life.
  • I have learned some new fears I have. 

What I Have Yet to Learn...
  • I have yet to learn how to access certain strengths I feel would help me overcome fear.
  • I have yet to learn how to master google docs.
  • I have yet to learn how to film and edit on youtube.
  • I have yet to learn how to organize my time...it's a never-ending battle.

Spiritual Insights...

Mosiah 21:16-17
And it came to pass that they began to prosper by degrees in the land, and began to raise grain more abundantly and flocks, and herds that they did not suffer with hunger....that every man should impart to the support of the widows and their children, that they might not perish with hunger; 

Oh that we can tolerate the difficult moments in life and poise ourselves to prosper so that we can better help others.


Goals...
  • Finish my final by Tuesday
  • Deep clean my house this week before I start another semester.
  • Really take time to read the scriptures and ponder the events of the week leading up to Easter Sunday.

Celebrating Life! What I have learned... (One final lecture) If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share? Lead your life!      Early in this semester I was introduced to Randy Pausch. His story was touching and inspiring as he had the chance to have clarity to what is most important at the end of life. He said in his last lecture at Carnegie Mellon University,  " It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to  lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The Dreams will come to you." It struck me that he used the word "lead" instead of "live." Turning 60

  Turning 60... I remember thinking 25 was years away...but it came and went..and so did another 25 years and now I have added 10 years on to that. I have found something really unexpected happened. I am embracing it wholeheartedly! More than ever, I realize there is no time to waste in life. Time is such a precious commodity but the quality of it is my choice. What I do with it is up to me. I still feel excited about new things like when a school year ends and a  new one begins. I am just finishing a Semester and I have been a bit overwhelmed. But I am living proof, you can begin again and again and there is joy to be found in it. The past few months have been really full of amazing experiences...especially the last few weeks. I shared some amazing moments with family and friends. Also this month I really took time to consider our country's amazing history. I was able to go to a crazy cool exhibit brought to town by Glen Beck. I learned a lot and really came to admire the man...

When I'm Lost...

  When I'm Lost... This week with my class I feel like I am walking down a path and there are no resting spots, no signs posted that let me know how close or not I am at arriving at my destination. There is no one to sit down with to explain what I am doing or why it has to be this way, and yet here I am...I have arrived at the end of the week safely, and I am still carrying hope, and I have a fairly positive outlook that it is all ok that I don't always know what I am doing. What is most important Is that I am on the path. If I am going to get lost, It is much wiser for me to stay where I can see a well-trodden path rather than to wander off into the woods. Yes, as far as this class I feel lost...but I'm really not. I have access to a tutor, other classmates, my teacher and even heavenly help that I know will help me figure it all out.
