Can You Hear The Music....

Can You Hear The Music....

Sometimes it is tempting to go through life just doing what we think we should because we see others doing it. We work, play, dress and even our belief system is influenced by the social norm. I have to wonder if this is a distraction from the ability to really be in tune with what direction we want our lives to go.

Bret and some of my kids have a band called, "Wooden Tantrum". They played at a local art festival this week. They play Celtic-style music and have a lot of fun together. As a young family when our children were learning to play instruments, we found that as they shared their newly found talent, they heard and felt something that they didn't seem to when they were just practicing for themselves. They began to play together and volunteered at care centers for the elderly, local libraries, and even small church and social events. It has evolved into more and more performances and I always find it interesting as a mom setting in the audience listening to them and having a flood of memories of each step they took to become the individuals they are now. I have come to realize that they didn't become great musicians just because they took lessons or because it was expected of them. They not only play their music, but they also hear their music....it moves them and it moves others. It is inspiring and joyful. All the while they play, people are tapping their toes or clapping, nodding their heads, or doing some kind of movement that shows their interest. At times in life, we see but don't always hear the rhythm that creates that joyful flow of understanding of where we want to go or what we want to be. For me, it is a spiritual experience to hear the music and one I love to share.

...Just listen...Can you hear the music? Video here.

What I Have Learned...

  • I have learned that I can hear the music best when I slow down and listen. Right now just saying that I become aware of the beautiful bird songs being sung outside my window.
  • I have learned that when we think of others, we receive an unexpected bounty of love and blessings.
  • I have learned that Prayer is more powerful than I could ever explain.
  • I have learned that by being willing to get a little messy, ask questions, and work ... you find the true reality is better than what you ever imagined.
  • I have learned that Miracles are everywhere....if we are willing to receive them.

What I Have Yet to Learn...

  • I have yet to learn the perfect organization of time....perhaps it is the flexibility and imperfectness that make it work....just a thought.
  • I have yet to learn math... I like it when I understand it, but forget it quickly and have to continually refresh myself on basics.... ugh!
  • I have yet to learn how to listen completely and unconditionally. Knowing when to share my opinions without it being rhetorical or disagreeable.
  • I have yet to learn how to trust technology...I want to learn to use my YouTube channel... I have some ideas how to try and will be asking others for help.

Spiritual Insights...

  • Speaking of Music...In the Book Of Mormon, Alma teaches:
Alma 26:3
"....And this is the blessing which hath been bestowed upon us, that we have been make instruments in the hands of God to bring about this great work."

And what is "this great work"? I believe it is to help others to hear the music of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To find joy in feeling His spirit and the willingness to live as He directs us.

Goals...

  • Start my new semester with a positive attitude and have confidence that I can do what is required of me, not only in school but as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.
  • Restructure my time management chart.
  • Work on some financial goals and organization of personal finances.
