What Christmas Is To Me...

What Christmas Is To Me...

I did it! I found the cutest Santa in town and kissed him right on the cheek. From the time I was little there has been a special place in my heart for Santa. I started to get suspicious that he wasn't real and asked my mom just who he was. She said Santa is really the image of the Spirit of giving. When there is the Spirit of giving is present so is Santa... This Santa has a special place in my heart. His generosity and kindness is ever-present. Best Santa Ever!

I have missed a few posts the past couple of weeks...kind of on purpose. When it comes to choosing between my family and a post...family wins. We have spent many precious hours together and when we were not I was busy preparing for the next time we were together or visiting friends with deliveries of gifts and goodies I had prepared. I wanted to savor every moment of the holiday. A favorite moment was when the grandkids acted out the Nativity story while my husband Bret read it from Luke 2. The lambs, shepherds, and angel stood around Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus (played by our youngest granddaughter). Made for a pretty cute picture don't you think?

Our little T-Mae was Mary. She is 4 and has a real sensitivity to the part she played as Mary. She keeps telling me that she got to be Mary for Christmas... As excited as she was about Santa, this is what she has referred back to most ...this experience. She likes to look up this picture and the pictures of her and her cousins and siblings and expresses delight in sharing the story of Baby Jesus' birth.

Family, and friends, gathering together to remember why we celebrate this season with hearts warmed and touched by the one who this season is all about....this is what Christmas is to me...

What I Have Learned...

  • I have learned that Christmas Adam gets better and better every year! This year the kids started a website to gather donations for the local food bank. If you are not familiar with Christmas Adam... well, it is the day before Christmas Eve on December 23. It is a day our children, their children, cousins and friends gather together on the corner just up the street to gather donations for a charity and pass out hot chocolate. It began over 20 years ago when nearby cousins began selling hot chocolate on that day and invited our kids to help... in recent years we noticed you really didn't need to put a price on the chocolate...because people were giving $5- $10 and even $20 for a cup of chocolate... so now we just ask for a donation, whatever it may be. This has become a beloved part of our holiday and this year they topped any amount ever made which for every $1 donated is equivalent to $9.04 worth of goods and services. This is a win-win for everyone!
  • I have learned that I can never get enough of hearing my children play music. I enjoyed every concert and performance they shared this season!
  • I have learned that God parts the sea when it comes to doing what means most in times when you don't know how you are going to get it all done...
  • I have learned how to download new fonts onto my computer...and that is a big deal for me!

What I Have Yet To Learn...
  • I have yet to figure out what micro business I want to start for the new class I will be taking this semester in Business Creation...Too many options!
  • I have yet to refresh some of my math skills...
  • I found some recipes to use my sourdough and start to make things like cookies and scones that I want to try.
  • I still am working on balancing life and being aware of what is the most important thing in my moment.

Spiritual Insights...

God can do impossible things. And because he can, we are blessed to experience life beyond our expectations...even do what we might think is impossible!

Luke 1:37
"For with God, nothing shall be impossible."

Goals...
  • Write a mission statement for this New Year.
  • Start my new class with confidence!
  • See the good in others and in my circumstance.
  • Begin a new reading of the New Testament.
