Spicing things up...

This week in my Business 210 class we have been learning about all the different things it takes to open a business and what can help to ensure its success. Being the "Foodie that I am, I immediately compared it to cooking and baking. 

To make something that people love and want more of, you have to: 

  • First- bring all that you have for what you want to the table. Make sure you have all the ingredients, the time, the equipment etc. 
  • Second- you will want to organize your strategy from what you know and what you have in such a way that you can be confident you are ready.  People who do this are really good cooks. They have stocked their kitchen, refined their recipe, and have the pots, pans, and oven ready to go. 

But there is one last thing that keeps coming to my mind. What is it that makes it special, you know, different from everybody else's recipe?.... The answer is "YOU". You are what takes the tried and true to something new. Your passion and desire to please and make something delicious...You have a way of "Spicing things up!"

What I Have Learned...

  • I have learned where to look up businesses to buy.
  • I have learned that white sweet potatoes are really good!
  • I have learned that some of my classmates are doing school amid tropical storms and national unrest in the countries they live in. I find their stories heart-wrenching and inspiring. I ache for them as I see them work so hard and petition our prayers on their behalf.
  • I have learned that when taking the time to stop and serve others everything seems to work out.
  • I have remembered that everything has been created for our benefit to use to create and make life good for everyone.

What I Have Yet to Learn...

  • I have yet to learn how to say the right things to calm someone. Many times I want to fix things or compare what they are experiencing to my own experience, when all they really want is for someone to listen.
  • I have yet to learn how to speed...not in a car, but doing homework. I get so in to it at times I really just take too long. I need to learn to move on.
  • I have yet to learn the best recipe for starting a business of my own....

Spiritual Insights...

John 1:3 
All things were made by him,; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Jesus Christ is the creator of all things. I believe he has the power to help me in my desire to be and do better. To create things myself will need his guiding hand. I know he can and trust that he will.

Goals...

  • Complete my goal this week for the LinkedIn course I am taking.
  • Be prepared for Achievement days.
  • Really be aware of friendships that need strengthening.

Celebrating Life! What I have learned... (One final lecture) If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share? Lead your life!      Early in this semester I was introduced to Randy Pausch. His story was touching and inspiring as he had the chance to have clarity to what is most important at the end of life. He said in his last lecture at Carnegie Mellon University,  " It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to  lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The Dreams will come to you." It struck me that he used the word "lead" instead of "live." I learned from Pausch that it is up to me to take initiative, to LEAD my life. The entrepreneurial journey is one of filling dreams and pursuing ideas. Turning 60

  Turning 60... I remember thinking 25 was years away...but it came and went..and so did another 25 years and now I have added 10 years on to that. I have found something really unexpected happened. I am embracing it wholeheartedly! More than ever, I realize there is no time to waste in life. Time is such a precious commodity but the quality of it is my choice. What I do with it is up to me. I still feel excited about new things like when a school year ends and a  new one begins. I am just finishing a Semester and I have been a bit overwhelmed. But I am living proof, you can begin again and again and there is joy to be found in it. The past few months have been really full of amazing experiences...especially the last few weeks. I shared some amazing moments with family and friends. Also this month I really took time to consider our country's amazing history. I was able to go to a crazy cool exhibit brought to town by Glen Beck. I learned a lot and really came to admire the man...

When I'm Lost...

  When I'm Lost... This week with my class I feel like I am walking down a path and there are no resting spots, no signs posted that let me know how close or not I am at arriving at my destination. There is no one to sit down with to explain what I am doing or why it has to be this way, and yet here I am...I have arrived at the end of the week safely, and I am still carrying hope, and I have a fairly positive outlook that it is all ok that I don't always know what I am doing. What is most important Is that I am on the path. If I am going to get lost, It is much wiser for me to stay where I can see a well-trodden path rather than to wander off into the woods. Yes, as far as this class I feel lost...but I'm really not. I have access to a tutor, other classmates, my teacher and even heavenly help that I know will help me figure it all out.
