The Light Within...

Every spring and fall the city I live in has a clean-up day where they place garbage bins around the city in neighborhoods and people clean up their yards and bring what they want to throw away to the dumpsters to be hauled off for them. It is nice because it makes you think of what might be just laying around junking up the yard or house that is too big for a garbage can but not quite enough to make a trip to the landfill. We woke up Saturday morning and heard the thud that erupts every time a load of trash is dumped into the dumpster. We got busy and took loads of old garden trash, and dead sunflower plants and got busy trimming limbs from overgrown shrubs and trees. It didn't take as long as you would think and what a difference it made! As I watched the tractors work to fill the bins, I thought to myself how it seems like you have to get rid of unnecessary things that seem to accumulate in life to make way for things that fill your life with light. As soon as we trimmed the shrubs and trees new light shown into the yard, it was like a burden was lightened within me, and the room was made in my life to do things that bring greater light into my world.

Things I Have Learned...

  • I have discovered that this week is one of my biggest projects for school and that I need to do some major studying!
  • I have learned that I am on my way to learning to cook divine sourdough bread. Here is a picture of my first attempt. I have had a great tutor who is a professional chef that shared some of his secrets. I am excited to try again!

  • I have learned that spending time with my little granddaughter making bread is the best thing ever! She made her own little cinnamon loaf (Pictured on the right) and had so much fun she didn't even want to watch a movie! It took me back to the days I spent with my grandma. She would just include me in whatever she was doing that day. I became a part of her day, she didn't set aside just for me, but used it to teach, love me and share with me her secrets of living life well....she understood the importance of the Light within and that we need to make space in life to enjoy the nurturing of it. I may have said this before, but my grandma lived to be 105+ years old before she passed.
  • I learned that neighbors are a blessing. I had neighbors that asked if I could take some of the peaches they grew in their backyard. 1 bushel turned into 2+. I was able to share with Brittan and Tara and couldn't help but feel grateful not only for the peaches but for the people who light up my life.
  • I have learned that the Lord is the best place to give my trust.
  • I have learned that Networking is an important skill and that you can be directed to find the answers you are looking for while building and strengthening relationships and contacts.
What I Have Yet to Learn...
  • How to find the CLV without any notes and a dozen other terms for the project this week.
  • I have yet to learn the organizational skills that keep me from making a mess when I study.
  • I have yet to create a Linkedin profile.
Spiritual Insights...

Ether 2:23

..."What will ye that I should do that ye may have light in your vessels?"

I feel the Lord is telling us that if we think it through we can come up with a plan that will work and he can make it happen. He can light us within...

Goals...
  • practice, practice, practice the formulas and definitions from Bus 180 to prep for the project this week.
  • Go to bed early and wake up early so that my day can be mostly available to my family.
  • Make 3 new contacts by Wednesday.

Celebrating Life! What I have learned... (One final lecture) If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share? Lead your life!      Early in this semester I was introduced to Randy Pausch. His story was touching and inspiring as he had the chance to have clarity to what is most important at the end of life. He said in his last lecture at Carnegie Mellon University,  " It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to  lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The Dreams will come to you." It struck me that he used the word "lead" instead of "live." I learned from Pausch that it is up to me to take initiative, to LEAD my life. The entrepreneurial journey is one of filling dreams and pursuing ideas. Turning 60

  Turning 60... I remember thinking 25 was years away...but it came and went..and so did another 25 years and now I have added 10 years on to that. I have found something really unexpected happened. I am embracing it wholeheartedly! More than ever, I realize there is no time to waste in life. Time is such a precious commodity but the quality of it is my choice. What I do with it is up to me. I still feel excited about new things like when a school year ends and a  new one begins. I am just finishing a Semester and I have been a bit overwhelmed. But I am living proof, you can begin again and again and there is joy to be found in it. The past few months have been really full of amazing experiences...especially the last few weeks. I shared some amazing moments with family and friends. Also this month I really took time to consider our country's amazing history. I was able to go to a crazy cool exhibit brought to town by Glen Beck. I learned a lot and really came to admire the man...

When I'm Lost...

  When I'm Lost... This week with my class I feel like I am walking down a path and there are no resting spots, no signs posted that let me know how close or not I am at arriving at my destination. There is no one to sit down with to explain what I am doing or why it has to be this way, and yet here I am...I have arrived at the end of the week safely, and I am still carrying hope, and I have a fairly positive outlook that it is all ok that I don't always know what I am doing. What is most important Is that I am on the path. If I am going to get lost, It is much wiser for me to stay where I can see a well-trodden path rather than to wander off into the woods. Yes, as far as this class I feel lost...but I'm really not. I have access to a tutor, other classmates, my teacher and even heavenly help that I know will help me figure it all out.
