Daring to Dream...
Daring to Dream...
Have you ever had the desire to do something that seems impossible? Maybe you feel you have to be the one to lead the way or maybe you feel that if you start to pursue your dream you might have opposition or difficulty that would make life hard and unpleasant. It's true, hard things come and unpleasantness accompanies many important tasks and goals...there is no doubt about it. Why they are connected is a mystery until you push through the hard and on the other side, realize that the hard was worth it. The challenge motivated you to do something new, greater, purposeful and inspiring.
As I said last week the half Ironman races had come to my hometown. I spent some time volunteering and doing a small task where I met some wonderful people. I looked around and was reminded of my mother's words "Many hands make for light work". This week I helped with a food station along the Ironman path. The runners by the time they reached us had already swum and biked and were now in the last leg of the race. They had to do a large loop through the city and up through the red rock area above the city 2 times before crossing the finish line. I observed the determination, grit, energy, and physical strength put forth by each runner as they passed by. This is an international race so all week I have heard different languages used all over town and it is a beautiful sound. Our town literally opens its arms to accommodate! All are working towards the same goal to prepare for and finish the race. Preparation has begun long before this week. It began with an Idea, a desire, and waking up every day to make progress toward a goal. For the racer, it was a run, a swim, and a bike ride. For others, it was a desire to bring all racers together to compete, to stretch limits, and to include others who although they may not be racing are necessary for a successful event to happen.
Here are 2 of the amazing volunteer captains!
They shine!!!
I can't help but admire those who take their dreams and are patient enough to make them a reality. I love listening to the dreams of my children. I love dreaming with my spouse. I love seeing the success of others as they fill their dreams. A freedom for which we are all privileged is "daring to dream..."
Here is a dreamer...ME! You would think that at my age I would just want to set back and let come what may, but no not today. Just this week for an assignment I had to create a profile/portfolio on Linkedin. You can find me there. This was scary for me... right there I have to let the world know what I have been dreaming about inside. I have uploaded my picture and set up the account and am still working on the finishing touches. It will be a new adventure meeting and connecting with people in a new way. Scary -Exciting!
What I have learned...
- I have learned that the scary, when faced head-on with determination, is not so scary at all.
- I have learned that my children have beautiful dreams and I want to see them come true and will help in any way I can.
- I have learned that sometimes I expect more out of me than God does...He wants to be the simple part of my life that keeps me grounded as I stride the race of life.
- I have learned that we all can find a common ground where there is peace and appreciation for what each of us can do.
What I have yet to learn...
- I have yet to learn to navigate Linkedin. It's harder than I thought it would be....and yet not so hard...
- I have yet to learn all the formulas I need to know for class...
- I have yet to learn how to speak a different language....Spanish maybe? Dare I dream?
Spiritual insights...
Ezekiel 36:26
"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you..."
Ezekiel teaches in the Old Testament that God can heal and change our hearts and gives us a new spirit. I often wonder when he says he can give us a new spirit if it is that same spirit that gives us hope, the spirit that pulls us up off the floor when we fall and helps us press on through the hard....the spirit that whispers loudly, "YOU GOT THIS"!
Goals...
- Get ahead in my classes so that I can enjoy my family for Thanksgiving.
- Go on a date with Bret this week that isn't work
- Not shy away from opportunities...
