Direction...

Direction ...

Bret and I took a quick hike to the top of a nearby clifftop where he wanted to show me this concrete arrow. The first scheduled passenger flight in the USA was made by Western Air Express on May 23, 1926, from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. This is one of four 50-foot arrows placed every 10 miles for navigation of mail and passenger planes. Coal oil lamps were used to illuminate the arrows after dark. What great effort was made to further the flight and aviation industry even so very long ago. Seeing this made me ponder the immense value of direction...

This week I started a new semester. I am actually quite excited about it. I had to work hard to get my studies early to go on a business trip with Bret. I have recently begun an internship at our family business and have already enjoyed the work and the associations with this opportunity. I can't help but think as I prepare for upcoming assignments about where to look for direction to keep me on track. I have appreciated the instructions and the encouragement from the instructors, but I have to say the arrows that light up to show me the way, light up my mind and my heart. A thought, an idea, a glimmer of understanding light up in my mind and I feel that what I am learning is not only important to me but to Him who created me. He gave me all the abilities to learn and create along my journey. I could not do this without Heaven's help. So I will keep looking in those dark moments for the illuminating arrows that point the way. And I am choosing right now to love this semester and this leg of my journey.

What I have learned...

  • I have learned that I can do more than I know.
  • I have learned that there is value in learning the stories of others and being inspired by them.
  • I have learned that it is fun to bottle peaches with my adult kids. We did this Saturday and laughed ourselves to pieces.
  • I have learned that once again I feel an extreme confirmation that I am doing what is best for me and my family right now.

What I have yet to learn....

  • I have learned that setting goals works. Sometimes they change or it takes me a bit longer to achieve them, but as I pursue them I am ever moving forward, even if it is slower than I thought.
  • I have yet to make good slab pottery... it is harder than it looks...but still fun!
  • I have still not finished one book!

Spiritual Insights...

This morning I learned about the value God places on work. I imagine it is what Heaven is made of. Many people have the idea that when we die we just do nothing but bask in God's love... I don't think that is really accurate. I believe we were made to work, create and grow forever... I dare say, doing nothing, at least for me, would be Hell. Well, I found a scripture that backs up my theory.

3 Nephi 27:33 (Book of Mormon)

"...Enter ye in the strait gate; for strait is the gate, and narrow is the way that leads to life, and few there be that find it; but wide is the gate and broad the way which leads to death, and many there be that travel therein until the night cometh, wherein no man can work."

Goals...

  • Enjoy my work week with Bret.
  • Prepare what I can for next weeks homework.
  • Find someone to interview
  • Review Excel skills.
