Summer!

Summer!

Summer...Happy, hot, sprinklers, holidays, birthdays, fireworks, parties, reunions, pioneers, suntans, swimming, lakes, sunburns, watercraft, eating out, BBQ, cold drinks, ice cream, family time, early mornings, late evenings, movies, treats, work, church activities, babysitting, neighbors, home, vacation, travel, books, pictures, long days and still not enough time, bike rides, hikes, walks, pickle ball laugher, cooking, eating, kids, grandkids, new babies, growth, dreams, lots and lots of love!

This is a pretty accurate description of summer at the Sevy home. Summer is when all the kids that live far away come home for a few weeks and I don't even get upset when my floor gets covered with sand and the house turns upside down....Nights get later and later because we get caught up in meaningful conversations and we talk and listen to each other. Mornings are magical when we start all over again with conversation or a walk or bike ride...pickle ball (if we can get a court). The town is bustling with people from all over that have found our little corner of the world. It seems that COVID has lead people to look for out of the way places that they can feel a little more protected and free from all the rules and regulations. St. George seems to have a little more feeling of space as many of the activities are outdoor and the many canyon lands surrounding it. As all of our family has come home, my husband and I had the opportunity to spend some time with a couple of our grandkids we don't get to see nearly enough because they live clear across the country. We decided on the spur of the moment that we would take them to Aspiration Pointe. This is a local trail that you can explore in under 2 hours. Aspiration Pointe hike is a colorful trail where people who visit there typically bring a painted rock and place along the path. Many of the rocks have inspiring quotes or thoughts, works of advice, dreams and aspirations. It is a pretty healthy climb to the summit and we enjoyed a water break every now and then. I had fun watching my little granddaughter stop and enjoy her experience, while Bret and our grandson scouted out ahead. What fun to hear them cheer "We did it," when we reached the end. They are finishers! I want to be too.

My first official college semester has ended and I have a few short weeks before I start my next. What an amazing journey it has been. I am trying to imagine what lies ahead...I feel some hope that I have what I need to succeed in my goals. I have God, my family and I have opportunity... So welcome summer! One quick breath and hear I go again :)

What I have learned

  • I have learned to trust that God will fight my battles with me. With him at my side I can do seemingly impossible things.
  • I have learned that Entrepreneurship is intriguing. I still have so much to learn. I have applied for an internship and it has been approved. I will get the opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial environment and have hands on experience in sales and be supervised by a retail manager that will give me help along the way.
  • I have learned that advocating for yourself is how you move things forward when it seems impossible. Many times lately I have had to make phone calls for assistance, with tech, with instructions ...I have had many kind conversations with people who want to help and have eventually. I had one person thank me for not yelling at them. It made me think that kindness is the winning path. I am always grateful when people show kindness to me.

What I have yet to learn

  • Still have that fear of technology and grateful for every opportunity to conquer my fears.
  • I have yet to learn how to relax and enjoy the moments that don't necessarily have any more purpose than just being in the moment.
  • I have yet to learn to work in balance with all the many amazing parts of my life.

Spiritual Insights

Nehemiah 6:3
"...I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down..."

I relate this to the work that I am doing...the work that will build me and build the world around me. I want it to be the Lords work. Everything good comes from Him and I marvel every time I make a mistake or things don't go as planned the Lord can make it a positive... He uses these experiences to build me. I am his work and he will not give up on me...

Goals

  • Check on the internship master plan to make sure all is in order.
  • Write a book about Bret's grandparents.
  • Paint the trim around the garage door
  • Keep working on time management
