Rain Check Reunion!

Rain Check Reunion!

This past couple of weeks was suppose to be our annual family reunion. All the kids traveled from all over the country to get here. Hours and hours of driving and flights. We had great expectations as we made plans for a great time.  It started out great...Pickle ball games, yummy food and great conversation. Only part of our family arrived early and we had just a couple of days to spend with them before they took a few days to enjoy lake powell while we waited for the rest of the family to arrive. When our daughter and her husband arrived later they brought with them the gift of COVID. Not on purpose...These things just happen ...it is no ones fault and as I look back on the situation I can see the bigger picture. Each moment we had together was so very valued. Those who tested positive quarantined and those who didn't kept playing. Bret tested positive a few days in and I did not, which means I am in a separate bedroom typing this at the moment. He has actually felt fantastic physically. He has been very productive and mowed the lawn, loaded the dishwasher, gone for bike rides, and spent endless hours catching up on scripture study, with a little added TV and YouTube videos. Podcasts were also a favorite and although I am keeping a bit of distance, we have had some great conversations about Esther, as we have been studying about her this week.

Whatever difficult circumstances that may come our way, it seems the Lord has a bigger plan that we cannot always see. Even in the difficulty of illness, God makes us stronger, better in ways we cannot always see or know. I am still pondering the quote by President Thomas S. Monson when he said, the Lord has placed us on an unfinished world...it is unfinished so that we can experience creation, I believe he wants us to be more like him and lets us learn how to work with the good and the bad that comes for our own benefit. This week as a family, some of us have played together, some of us have prayed together. We have all indeed made memories and even mistakes, but it's been a great time as a family. Last night as I was picking up some dinner and trying to get home before the flash flood weather. But I couldn't help but think the Lord sent a sign just for me...one that reminded me of his promises. One that gave me hope. I think it was a "Rain Check"... a moment for me to check myself to remember he is there watching over us even in the rain, the difficult moments, the unexpected, the storms and floods of trial. I often am too aware of what is going wrong. Maybe it would be better for me to step back and see beauty in the rainbow... what is going right -in the midst of everything...the color in the prisms of mist is only visible when the light of the sun shine through it. I can always count on the light of the Son to show me the beauty I could not otherwise see.

What I Have Learned...
  • I have learned that I have no control over what happens....it is how I try deal with it that matters. And it might not be the perfect way, but it's better to try than to not care.
  • I have learned that we have to work through individual challenges but that does not mean we have to do it alone.
  • I have learned that I can be a part of creating something better.
  • I have learned that my heart aches for my children to hold true to who they are and know how much I love them.

What I have yet to learn...
  • Patience
  • How to be more fun
  • Sugar doesn't make you thin and healthy!
  • How to clone myself
  • How to say things in a way that builds and strengthens others.

Spiritual insights...

Esther 4:14
..."And who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Goals...
  • Love enduringly
  • Prep for trip
  • Deep clean
  • Work on daily schedule
  • Pray with confidence and trust in the Lord

Food! Family! Fun!
