Rain Check Reunion!

Image
Rain Check Reunion! This past couple of weeks was suppose to be our annual family reunion. All the kids traveled from all over the country to get here. Hours and hours of driving and flights. We had great expectations as we made plans for a great time.  It started out great...Pickle ball games, yummy food and great conversation. Only part of our family arrived early and we had just a couple of days to spend with them before they took a few days to enjoy lake powell while we waited for the rest of the family to arrive. When our daughter and her husband arrived later they brought with them the gift of COVID. Not on purpose...These things just happen ...it is no ones fault and as I look back on the situation I can see the bigger picture. Each moment we had together was so very valued. Those who tested positive quarantined and those who didn't kept playing. Bret tested positive a few days in and I did not, which means I am in a separate bedroom typing this at the moment. He has ...

Summer!

Summer! Summer...Happy, hot, sprinklers, holidays, birthdays, fireworks, parties, reunions, pioneers, suntans, swimming, lakes, sunburns, watercraft, eating out, BBQ, cold drinks, ice cream, family time, early mornings, late evenings, movies, treats, work, church activities, babysitting, neighbors, home, vacation, travel, books, pictures, long days and still not enough time, bike rides, hikes, walks, pickle ball laugher, cooking, eating, kids, grandkids, new babies, growth, dreams, lots and lots of love! This is a pretty accurate description of summer at the Sevy home. Summer is when all the kids that live far away come home for a few weeks and I don't even get upset when my floor gets covered with sand and the house turns upside down....Nights get later and later because we get caught up in meaningful conversations and we talk and listen to each other. Mornings are magical when we start all over again with conversation or a walk or bike ride...pickle ball (if we can get a court). ...

Celebrating Life!

Celebrating Life! What I have learned... (One final lecture) If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share? Lead your life!      Early in this semester I was introduced to Randy Pausch. His story was touching and inspiring as he had the chance to have clarity to what is most important at the end of life. He said in his last lecture at Carnegie Mellon University,  " It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to  lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The Dreams will come to you." It struck me that he used the word "lead" instead of "live." I learned from Pausch that it is up to me to take initiative, to LEAD my life. The entrepreneurial journey is one of filling dreams and pursuing ideas. You must have confidence in yourself.  Take the initiative...take the lead! Begin with the end in mind In this journ...

I Am Grateful...

I Am Grateful... ...For the opportunity to look back and see what I have learned along my journey in life. I would like to think I have an entrepreneur spirit. I have spent the past 38 years raising a family and cherish every moment heart and soul. Every day I learn something new. If I had a dollar for every time I learned something I would surely be a billionaire! There are times I think that I can and should take my ideas and turn them into an entrepreneurial venture. This is why I went back to school. It may not necessarily be a venture to make money, but to be confident that as I prepare for a mission with my husband, or help with the family business, or even just managing our home, I can do it more confidently and with gratitude. I am grateful for the instructors in my life that have been so patient and willing to teach me. One in particular is my mom. My mom was known for her great cooking and warm hugs. Some of the richest people in the world are not known for such valuabl...

For A Change

For A Change... My husband Bret and I went to the movies this week and as I was waiting I saw this on the door. There was one by the pop machine and registers as well. Now you may look at this and think, "Thats a cool idea", where I look at it and say, "That's my idea!." I mean really...For our project last semester we were required to create a lemonade business. As a team with some of my class members, we had to come up with some ways to measure metrics of the business and get input from our customers. My big idea was to have a "Happy Button" to hit if you liked our product or experience at our shop. Seeing this at the theatre literally made my heart sing! I felt like maybe I can have good ideas that would be useful in a company. I applaud them for using such a clever idea! This week we celebrated the 4th of July. I had an amazing experience. I woke up and listened to someone recite the Declaration of Independence as we got ready to go to the parade a...
